PRIVACY POLICY
Your privacy matters
This policy explains what SmartLists collects, why it is used, and the choices available to you.
Effective: 22 June 2026
Information we collect
- Account information: If you connect Google, SmartLists receives your Firebase user identifier, display name, email address and profile photo.
- Shopping information: Lists, item names, quantities, categories, budgets, prices, barcodes and optional product images.
- Community contributions: Products, store prices, price history, votes and contribution totals that you choose to submit.
- Local preferences: Theme, currency and recently scanned product information may be stored on your device.
Camera access
SmartLists uses the camera only when you open the barcode scanner. Camera images are processed to read a barcode and are not saved or uploaded by SmartLists.
How information is used
- Run the app, create lists, calculate totals and budgets, scan products, compare prices and restore your information.
- Back up and sync private lists across devices when you connect a Google account.
- Display shared product and store-price information and help assess price reliability.
- Prevent misuse, diagnose errors and maintain the service.
Storage and service providers
SmartLists uses Google Firebase for authentication, cloud storage and server functions. Google Sign-In is used only when you choose to connect an account.
Barcode lookups may request public product information from Open Food Facts or Open Products Facts. The scanned barcode is sent to the selected lookup service to retrieve product details.
Sharing and visibility
Private shopping lists and list items are accessible only to the signed-in account that owns them.
Product names, barcodes, store prices and price history submitted to community features may be visible to other SmartLists users. Your email address and Google profile are not displayed with those contributions.
SmartLists does not sell your personal information or use it for third-party advertising.
Data retention and deletion
Local information remains on your device until you delete it, clear the app data or uninstall SmartLists. Cloud information is retained while your connected account remains active.
You can permanently delete your account and associated cloud data from Settings → Delete account and cloud data, or use the online account deletion page.
Shared community product and price information may remain so other users do not lose useful comparison data, but links to your account and your voting records are removed.
Security
SmartLists uses authenticated Firebase services and access rules designed to keep private lists separated by account. No online service can guarantee absolute security, so you should protect access to your device and Google account.
Children
SmartLists is a general shopping utility and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Your choices
- Use SmartLists locally without connecting Google.
- Deny or revoke camera permission in your device settings.
- Sign out while keeping cloud data, or permanently delete your account and associated cloud data.
Changes and contact
This policy may be updated when SmartLists features or legal requirements change. The effective date above will be updated when material changes are made.
For privacy questions or requests, use the developer contact details shown on the SmartLists Google Play listing.
